RISE TO ADDICTION: In Writing Mode

Vocalist Leigh Oates of the British heavy rockers RISE TO ADDICTION has issued the following update:

"We're currently taking a bit of time off the live side of things in order to give album number 2 our full attention. We've been heavily writing since the start of the New Year and at present have 14 songs which we've got in various stages of demo. We'll have to trim this down to 10-12 songs for the label so that in itself will be a hard decision because we like 'em all! All I can say really about the songs and their direction is that they build on the work we did with [2007's] 'A New Shade of Black for the Soul' and take the best elements of RTA and push 'em further… Hope that makes sense! I've currently got most of the melodies sorted for the songs and have been writing lyrics as we've gone…So far writing these songs has been a real cathartic experience and I want the lyrics to really reflect that. All demoing will be finished by April and then the real recording starts with a tentative release date of around November."

RISE TO ADDICTION — which features in its ranks former BLAZE members John Slater (guitar) and Steve Wray (guitar) — recently released the video for the song "One Sweet Minute". Watch it below.

"One Sweet Minute" comes off RISE TO ADDICTION's debut album, "A New Shade of Black for the Soul", which was released in the U.S. on October 9, 2007 via Mausoleum Records.

"A New Shade of Black for the Soul" was issued on May 14 in the U.K., May 18 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and May 21 in the rest of Europe via Mausoleum. The CD was produced by Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, TRIVIUM, MEGADETH). Always willing to push musical boundaries, RISE TO ADDICTION enlisted the help of avant-garde pianist Mike Garson on one of the songs. Mike, who is known for his work with greats such as DAVID BOWIE, SMASHING PUMPKINS and NINE INCH NAILS, wrote and recorded the piano interlude for the song "Fessonia".

RISE TO ADDICTION, whose music is described as a distinctive modern sound with melody and slab heavy riffing, released its self-titled EP in 2005 through Madman Records. Also produced by Andy Sneap, it featured three tracks — "Falling as One", "Everlasting Wave", "To a God Unknown" — and also included the promo video for the EP's opening track.
